Lady Rogue by Theresa Romain

Joining me today is Theresa Romain.

Welcome Theresa! Let’s get started.

Why did you choose to write about a commoner man marrying an aristocratic lady? Do you think that it truly would have worked?

This wasn’t a pairing I’d written before (I think…now I need to go check my backlist!), so that made it interesting to me. Power and influence in English society 200 years ago worked very differently than they do in our modern US society. Regency characters aren’t simply modern folks in long dresses—though that being said, my characters are always open to change. Otherwise, how can they grow and earn that HEA?

I do think that a commoner man/aristocratic woman marriage could have worked. We’ve got examples, both modern and historical! Though it was definitely less usual than for an aristocratic man to marry a commoner woman, because historically in England, children inherited their father’s rank—so an aristocratic woman wouldn’t have passed on her own title/rank to her kids.

Lady Isabel of LADY ROGUE doesn’t feel she has anything to lose, though. She has plenty of money; she enjoys society but doesn’t need to be at its heart; she was married before out of duty rather than love. She’s about as independent as a woman of her time could have been, and so her romance is of an independent sort too.

Does writing energize or exhaust you?

Some of both, really. I have chronic fatigue issues, and writing takes a lot out of me physically. It doesn’t make sense, but it’s the case! Yet when a project is going really well and I make the day’s word count goal with time to spare, it can be very energizing. It makes me feel like I’ve done something worthwhile with my day.

Do you try to be original, or give readers what they want?

Why not both? 🙂 I want each of my stories to contain characters and events that feel fresh so that I’ll enjoy writing it. But since I’m the same me writing each book, they definitely have points in common: banter, literary references, beloved pets…things like that.

Do you want each of your books to stand alone, or are you working towards a body of work?

Again, why not both? Since any one of my books could be the first one a reader finds, each story must stand on its own and have a self-contained love story. For those who like to follow a series in order, I think it can be fun to include continuing plot threads or characters, but the reader of just one book won’t be left confused. I’ve just finished my 18th romance, counting novels and novellas, and the longest series of connected books I’ve written is four stories.

What is your favorite underappreciated book?

Most of the books I love are well known among other romance readers, but to people who don’t read romance, they might not be familiar. I’ve used the books of Courtney Milan and Susanna Kearsley to convince friends who read fiction that they really ought to be reading romance as well! But those authors’ books are very well-loved, so I wouldn’t call them underappreciated. Now you’ve got me thinking about this, though—thank you! I share book recommendations on BookBub when I particularly enjoy something I’ve read, so watch that space and maybe we’ll all find an underappreciated gem.

What does literary success look like to you?

That’s a great question, and I bet every author’s answer is a little different. My own definition of success would be enough money to live on without pinching every penny, the respect of my peers, and awesome readers who enjoy my books. Thank you so much for being one of the latter!

Thank you for being with me today, I hope your book is a huge success! Will this be a series? Sorry, could not help myself!

Yes, LADY ROGUE is part of a series. It’s loosely connected to the first two Royal Rewards books, FORTUNE FAVORS THE WICKED and PASSION FAVORS THE BOLD. A final book, LADY NOTORIOUS, will be out on February 26, 2019. More info about each of these, and all my other books, can be found on theresaromain.com.

Thank you so much for hosting me!

HER SECRET SCANDAL

As far as London’s high society knows, Lady Isabel Morrow is above reproach. But the truth is rarely so simple. Though the young widow’s passionate fling with dashing Bow Street Runner Callum Jenks ended amicably months ago, she now needs his expertise. It seems Isabel’s late husband, a respected art dealer, was peddling forgeries. If those misdeeds are revealed, the marriage prospects of his younger cousin— now Isabel’s ward—will be ruined.

For the second time, Isabel has upended Callum’s well-ordered world. He’s resolved to help her secretly replace the forgeries with the real masterpieces, as a . . . friend. A proper sort of friend doesn’t burn with desire, of course, or steal kisses on twilight errands. Or draw a willing lady into one passionate encounter after another. Isabel’s scheme is testing Callum’s heart as well as his loyalties. But with pleasure so intoxicating, the real crime would be to resist . . .

TRULY GOOD READ!

This is a great story, both poignant, and uplifting. How a Marquess’s daughter, Lady Isabel goes from a marriage to a very cold man, to finding love with an Officer of The Police. I love the Bow Street Runner, Callum Jenks, still trying to solve the death of Lady Isabel’ s husband. He never truly believed everything was as it seemed. Lady Isabel finally realized that just confining her activities to the requisite house calls is not enough any longer, she wants to contribute in some small way to the world she was born into. I did not think that I would like Lady Isabel marrying outside the Aristocracy, with no money, however, as usual , Theresa Romaine makes it seem perfectly natural.
I Highly Recommend! Thank you! Enjoy!

Never before has Collette Fortier met a man as attractive as Rafe. But her father’s life is at stake, and succumbing to Rafe would be disastrous. But when Rafe turns the tables on her, offering support and friendship instead of a fleeting affair, Collette finds herself tempted in ways she never could have imagined…

Rafe Beaumont, member of Lt. Colonel Draven’s hero’s, and fifth son of an Earl. The dangerous war that Rafe fought was in bedrooms, with some of the wives of Napoleon’s top leaders! This was his dangerous assignment, now, the war is over, the men at their Club, he fought with, tease him unmercifully about his dangerous work!

Now, he truly has been given a dangerous assignment, he must seduce the daughter of Napoleon’s most brutal assassin. Collette Fortier, has never met a more handsome man in her entire life, yet with hundreds of women chasing him, she is immune, only because her father’s life is in danger, under the Bourbon’s, who have returned to the throne.

I have wept through some of this incredible Story, and I have laughed more out loud, while reading this book! There are some people who become nervous, and strange things come out of their mouths, without their realizing it. Colette, says the strangest things!

I love Shana Galen’s work, that, however, does not preclude my honesty, and more importantly, my integrity. I love this Book! I highly recommend! Enjoy! Thank you!

I love  this series, I can’t imagine why this has not been made into an original series, on PBS! It has everything, a sexy hero, who fought in the Napoleonic War, two beautiful women who desperately want him,  Kat is a beautiful Irish actress, his first love! She is considered a great beauty, and the greatest actress of her time, there is nothing, including her body that she would not give him, nor was she a virgin when they met. Personally, I don’t care for her. I like, Hero, yes, Hero. Her father is the powerful Lord Jarvis, distant cousin to the Prince Regent. Hero is extremely intelligent, totally self-confident, loyal, and the best thing about her? She is smart enough to carry a gun, that her father, Lord Jarvis had made for her. She knows how to clean it,and she certainly will use it, to defend herself, and those she loves! We are now up to book 13, she and Sebastian St. Cyr had to marry, they have been through some rough times. Hero, was more than willing to let him go, once her child was born, considering how much he loved Kat. However, almost losing this brave, smart, loving woman, nearly destroyed him, he realized he truly loved her, just as she is. Knowing her father, is his worst enemy, Lord Jarvis would not hesitate to kill his much-loved daughter’s husband. In this story, the baby, Simon is One, his Birthday comes in the midst of a great snow storm, that freezes the Thames. Hero, and a friend come across a dead body, while helping a poor woman about to give birth. The body is that of Princess Charlotte’s piano teacher! Of course, it is taken out of the Bow Street Runners hands, by the orders of Lord Jarvis. Now, begins, Hero, and Sebastian’s hunt for the killer, which takes them to the Queen, to Henry Of Orange, Prince of Denmark, to the dead woman’s husband, next is a close friend of her brother’s. It is as usual well written, the characters are all well-developed, and it is a great mystery. The only thing I did not care for, there is not enough affection between Hero, and Sebastian. However, I cannot wait until Hero finds out, about her cousin, and her father! Were they having an affair, before her Mother died? I truly wish Ms. Harris, would write two of these a year, it is difficult waiting a whole year, for one more look, at this extraordinary pair!

I Highly Recommend! Thanks! Enjoy!

I love the Worthington’s!  I have since the very first book, as usual Ella Quinn has done it again! Now, it is Lady Charlotte’s turn, the evil Miss Betsey, is alive, and out for Revenge. On the day Lady Charlotte is kidnapped, sweet little Jimmy hops onto the back of the carriage of the kidnappers! The child is only 5, or 6 years old! However, the lady he loves is in danger! A footman, sees the Marquis of Kenilworth im his phaeton, going in the opposite direction, and begs for his help, in rescuing Lady Charlotte

The selfish Marquis can think of only one thing, he is off to see his Mistress, and doesn’t have time for being an honorable gentleman! However, it seems there is no on but him to intercede! He looks at his watch, and decides, he possibly has time to rescue the young chit, get back to bathe, off to the theater with Aimee, his Mistress. Do we notice a trend here, a young innocent lady is kidnapped, he is concerned with keeping his appointment with well, you know! Off he goes to follow the carriage, he sees the young boy hanging onto the back of his carriage, follows him to an Inn on the outside of London. This is just the beginning of a witty, romance, that brings up the morals of the Aristocracy male, the danger to a lady’s reputation, and the sordid underbelly of London Society!

When he finally does meet up with Lady Charlotte, she is nothing like he thought she would be! For one thing, she is not impressed with his title, his looks, or money! This has never happened to him before, in fact, he has always believed it is one of his best features! I am deducting one half Pearl, for the use of the term giggle! I do this with every book, no matter how much I admire the Author. Intelligent, young ladies don’t giggle, they laugh!

I highly Recommend this Book Today! Thanks! Enjoy!

The Marquess of Winterbourne ,Ethan Gaxton is a Spy for The Foreign Office, during the time of Madame Guillotine! He has returned from France, to spy out a traitor from England, a peer, who is exchanging weapons for money! The traitor is ruthless, will murder anyone who gets in his way. Ethan is staying with his younger half brother, the Earl of Sillbourne, Alex, who also works for the Forgein Office. While trying to locate the smugglers , he comes across a beautiful young woman, whom he mistakes for a maid! Even though he has danced with her, during her come out Season, during a Ton ball! She is the Honorable Miss Francesca Brigham, whose father, is only a Viscount, yet he is very active in Parliament.

The sad thing is, she has been in love with the Marquess, since she first laid eyes on him, he cannot remember who she is, and when he does, he is angry with himself for not behaving like a gentleman. Now, he has assumed that she is a maid! He finds her in the stables of a man that he is spying on. When he does realize who she is, he is determined to take her home, tell her father, that she is wondering around, unchaperoned, and unprotected. This has so much going on, spying, a budding romance, some of the funniest lines since Pride and Predjudice! In fact , I would take Mrs Bennett over her Mother, well, actually, I don’t know who is the worse, Mrs. Bennett, or Lady Bringham?  There are very humourous lines in this book! Very Shana Galen!

The scary part, believe it or not, is not the Spying, it’s the attacks on Francesca! She has someone determined to rape her, and to murder her! I love this book! It will make my top 25 this year!

I highly Recommend! Thanks! Enjoy!
